Artist Statement
In all my work, I strive to create a sense of escapism for the viewer. Allowing you to really feel the scene they’re observing. I draw my inspiration from the essential characteristics of a landscape and transport them to the canvas to capture the pulses of life emanating from my surroundings. Having grown up on the South coast I feel a strong connection to the coast and countryside, both being the inspiration behind much of my work.
Using a wet-on-wet technique allows the paint to flow and blend on the canvas, helping me to create bold, vivid colours within my work. This technique lets me add depth and texture, altering a painting’s character whether I’m creating a harsh, contrasting landscape or a calm and flowing piece.
In a fast-paced world, I like my work to slowly draw the viewer in and reveal itself over time. Allowing you to feel emersed in each piece, like you can really feel yourself there capturing the moment, embracing it and being able to feel yourself there, time and time again. Confident brush strokes serve as a reminder of the process and nature of my work and help to capture the essence of a scene, generating feelings of warmth, calm and reflection.
I hope that through the somewhat mystical themes within my work you can feel comforted and enlightened, creating a joyful and fulfilling experience allowing you to be in the moment and appreciate the world around you.
See each sunrise, as a gift.
